Camp !
11 - 3 - 19 // Lynx Orsler
We arrived in the literal middle of nowhere and all i could see was kilometers of sand and water. As i watched the vans and buses drive away neglecting us i realised the only thing left to do was to walk and walk AND walk until we got to our destination.
I wasn't the most keen because i was lacking a lot of sleep but i just had to suck it up. We meet our instructors, did a quick bag check then started our mini adventure! 10 minutes into our walk we stopped and played a couple of games then started walking again. On the way to the campsite there were 4 different activities for us to do. Picking up rubbish, making fire, swimming and free time and hut making
We got to our first activity, picking up rubbish. There wasn't much rubbish around but i found a few lolly wrappers.
Next was firing making which was my personal favorite about those 4 activities. We got into teams which was easy than the hardest part was having to find DRY wood. There was heaps of wood around but it had recently been raining so most of wasn't dry. Once we found our wood and got our fire started we next made some dampa, mine didn't taste the very best nore was mine edible but it was still fun to get my hands messy and have some fun.
Just around the corner from where we made our fires most of us went swimming, the ones who didn't participate just sat around and made use of what we had. In order for us to get to the campsite we had to cross a small little river so some of us made a bridge so we didn't get wet. Others made a fire and burned random stuff and that's where i learnt that the flame of a candle is 1000 degrees!
Quickly well we were waiting for the other classes to meet up with us so we could walk over to the campsite all together we made huts, we got into teams and we had 15 minutes to make a hut. Personally i think my team's hut was the best because we had a couch in it
We got to the campsite and not even 10 minutes into being there i stood on a tent peg and deeply cut my toe, it hurt A LOT but it didn't make me cry.
We made dinner which was spaghetti bolognese, got into warm clothes and waited for the sun to go down. The campsite was located on a hill and in front of us was the beach. As the sun was going down behind us in the hills, just watching the sky get darker and seeing the waves crashing together made me feel so relaxed!
It was finally dark so all three homerooms got together and we all got split into two team. One team played spotlight where we had to hide in the dark and if u had the light u had to find everyone. The other team did this thing called nightlight where u were blindfolded and had to walk around the bush following a rope. Each team got to do both activities and my team did nightlight first. Honestly i found it pretty scary but i feel like i was the only one that did. Spotlight was pretty fun even tho we had to cross another river to get to our destination.
By the end of the night i had cut my toe open, got a heap of scratches on the back of my legs from stoplight, a sore burn on my thumb from cooking dinner and a bunch of wet clothes.
I woke up with the badset headache and an extremely sore toe and what made it worse was that it was 6 o'clock! We slept under a fly and unlike last year's camp the fly didn't blow away thankfully. After we went for a run to the cornfield and back we had breakfast. What we had for breakfast was porage.
After we had finished having breakfast and doing our little fitness sesh we started doing our ocean olympics. That was where all three homeroom completed and the first homeroom to do all the activities won! Our homeroom ended up winning and that was great!
After like 100 years of walking we finally got to the buses and went home, i enjoyed my experience and i'm happy i went on camp.
